What Are Experts Saying About the Fall Housing Market?

The housing market is rapidly changing from the peak frenzy it saw over the past two years. That means you probably have questions about what your best move is if you’re thinking of buying or selling this fall.

To help you make a confident decision, lean on the professionals for insights. Here are a few things experts are saying about the fall housing market.

Expert Quotes for Fall Homebuyers

A recent article from realtor.com:

This fall, a more moderate pace of home selling, more listings to choose from, and softening price growth will provide some breathing room for buyers searching for a home during what is typically the best time to buy a home.”

Michael Lane, VP and General Manager, ShowingTime:

Buyers will continue to see less competition for homes and have more time to tour homes they like and consider their options.”

Expert Quotes for Fall Sellers

Selma Hepp, Interim Lead of the Office of the Chief Economist, CoreLogic:

“. . . record equity continues to provide fuel for housing demand, particularly if households are relocating to more affordable areas.”

Danielle Hale, Chief Economist, realtor.com:

“For homeowners deciding whether to make a move this year, remember that listing prices – while lower than a few months ago – remain higher than in prior years, so you’re still likely to find opportunities to cash-in on record-high levels of equity, particularly if you’ve owned your home for a longer period of time.”

In our area last month…

We are in the middle of another market shift, but don’t forget that shifts in the market are normal.

This is still a seller's market, but one that's shifting back to balance with the buy side.

Things to remember:

- The right single offer can be better than a multiple offer situation

- Pricing your home appropriately will bring more buyer attention to your home (and ultimately a better sale)

Apple Cider Pork Pot Roast

Ingredients

  • 1 (5-pound) boneless pork shoulder (6 pounds; if bone-in)

  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

  • ½ teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

  • 2 yellow onions, cut into 2-inch wedges

  • 2 cupsapple cider

  • 2 tart apples, cored and cut into 2-inch cubes

  • 2 sprigs fresh thyme or 1 teaspoon dried thyme

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F.

  2. Season the pork with the salt and pepper.

  3. Heat the oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the pork and brown well on all sides, 3 to 4 minutes per side.

  4. Remove the pork and add the onion wedges to the pot. Cook for a few minutes, letting them get a little color but being careful not to let them burn.

  5. Return the pork to the pot, placing it on the bed of onions. Add the cider and 1 cup water and bring to a simmer, then wedge the apple pieces under the meat among the onions. Toss in the thyme.

  6. Cover and transfer to the oven. Cook for 3 hours, or until the meat is fork-tender, shreds easily, and is a deep brown color; the apples will have caramelized.

    Makes 12 servings.
